Slumdog Millionaire

13. In the final scene, we see Salim and the choice he makes - filling the bathtub with money, etc. Why does he make this choice?
The whole movie centered in the show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” because it meant the acquiring of a high social status by means of money. In the case of Salim, who also gained a lot of money, meant the acquiring of a high social status, but since he was going to die, he chose to fill the bathtub with money because I think that meant to him dying with dignity.

14. This film weaves together nightmare and impossible dream. What do you take away as the most important message or impression from the film?
The most impressive scene was when Salim was acting as a tourist guide for some Americans. When they came and found out that somebody robbed their car and suddenly the Indian guy started to hit Salim. The phrase he said, “want a piece of what real India is?” Then what the Americans said to him, “we will give you a piece of what real America is,” and gave him (money). Those scenes were the ones that had the greatest impact for me from the entire movie because it represented the contrast between the Indian and the American culture. It show the difference in how to solve problems or treat children. In the case of Indians, it is correct to hit them, or at least what they always do, and Americans with love and money.

  1. I disagree roberto, i think salim got himself into the money, because to him it meant a theatrical dramatic and visual way of showing that by dealing with the type of people he dealt with, he drowned his life in "Blood money" meaning he made fortune out of misfourtune, a think he found it poetical to die and mark it literal that this money from his boss, was indeed "blood money"

  3. i think that salim gor himlseft in a bathub full with money was to show how you can get all that money and fame and all that superficial stuff and you still have a meanless life. when he realized that the decisions that he had made make her life just so "empty", he try to make "damage control" by making his last decision, that take deathly consequences.. so he choose to show the "bad guys", i dont remember names so i will tell them that way, how ironic can be life at some point.

  8. I think that killing himself in a bathtub full of money, its just a symbolism of Salim's life (I don't like talking about Salim ¬¬). I think his life was based entirely of money, I mean, since the beggining of the movie he was interested in getting more money. He sold his brother's autograph, he got a gun and killed mamman and he stole money from him, and he worked with a gangster to get more money.. so.. I think the money in the bathtub means that money got him where he was, and shooting himself there represents that money killed him too.
